Our Take
Oh, the Shambolics, the band that can't decide if they want to be the next Arctic Monkeys or the next Oasis. Their latest offering, "Dreams, Schemes & Young Teams," comes in a delightful yellow vinyl that screams indie exclusive. From the very first track, "Love Collides," it's clear that these lads are not afraid to wear their influences on their sleeves. With a sound that's equal parts 90s Britpop and modern indie rock, the Shambolics manage to walk the fine line between homage and rip-off. Lead singer Lewis McDonald's vocals are reminiscent of a young Liam Gallagher, all attitude and swagger. But don't let that fool you, there's a vulnerability in his voice that gives the songs a depth beyond their catchy melodies. Standout tracks include "Chasing a Disaster," a toe-tapping anthem that will have you singing along in no time, and "My Time is Now," a slow-burner that showcases the band's more introspective side.
