Our Take

Ah, the Pixies, a band that has influenced countless other musicians with their unique blend of shrieking guitars, cryptic lyrics, and off-kilter melodies. Doolittle, their seminal album, has just turned 25, and what better way to celebrate than with a reissue that includes a plethora of bonus tracks and a brand new mix by the one and only Steve Albini.

From the moment "Debaser" kicks in with its infectious riff and Black Francis' distinctive howl, you know you're in for a wild ride. The album's standout tracks, including "Monkey Gone to Heaven" and "Here Comes Your Man," still sound as fresh and exciting as they did back in the late '80s.

But what really sets Doolittle apart is its dark and surreal lyrics, which touch on everything from biblical themes to mental illness to, well, monkeys going to heaven.
