Ah, the divine sounds of Rachmaninov's Liturgy of St John, interpreted by the illustrious Corydon Singers. As I settled in to listen to this album, I must admit, I had high expectations - after all, the Corydon Singers are known for their impeccable choral performances.

From the very first notes of the opening track, I was transported to a place of pure musical bliss. The harmonies were rich and full, the dynamics perfectly balanced, and the overall performance oozed a sense of reverence and passion.

One of the standout moments for me was the rendition of the Cherubic Hymn - the voices soared effortlessly, creating a truly ethereal atmosphere that sent shivers down my spine. And let's not forget about the intricate interplay between the different vocal sections - it was like listening to a perfectly choreographed dance.

But, as with all things, there were a few moments that didn't quite hit the mark for me. Some of the tempos felt slightly rushed, detracting from the overall sense of grandeur that this piece demands. And while the soloists were undoubtedly talented, there were a few moments where their voices felt slightly strained.

Overall, though, the Corydon Singers have delivered a truly commendable performance of Rachmaninov's Liturgy of St John. It may not be perfect, but it certainly comes close. So grab a glass of wine, light some candles, and let yourself be swept away by the divine sounds of this album.
