Our Take

Cloakroom's "Dissolution Wave" is like a warm cup of tea on a rainy day - comforting, familiar, and just what you need to take the edge off. Like a musical hug from an old friend, this album envelopes you in a haze of shoegaze and post-rock vibes that are as soothing as they are captivating.

From the opening track "Seedless Star" to the dreamy melodies of "Moon Funeral," Cloakroom weaves a sonic tapestry that is both ethereal and grounded. The band's ability to balance introspective lyricism with expansive soundscapes is a testament to their prowess as musicians.

There's a subtle complexity to "Dissolution Wave" that reveals itself with each listen, like peeling back layers of an onion to reveal the tender heart at its core. Tracks like "Hymn 36" and "Lost to the Void" showcase Cloakroom's ability to create music that is both introspective and anthemic, drawing you in with their raw emotion and ethereal beauty.

Overall, "Dissolution Wave" is a triumph for Cloakroom, solidifying their status as masters of the post-rock genre. So grab a cup of tea, put on your headphones, and let yourself be swept away by the mesmerising sounds of Cloakroom. You won't regret it.

About the artist

Cloakroom

CLOAKROOM are like that weird kid at school who always seemed to veer off into the shadows, but in the best way possible. Hailing from the small town of Northwest Indiana, this trio has been quietly churning out their unique blend of shoe-gaze, grunge, and post-hardcore since 2012. Lead singer and guitarist Doyle Martin's haunting vocals can pierce through the noise like a foghorn in the night, while Bobby Markos and drummer Brian Busch hold down the fort with their pulsating rhythms. Together, they create a sonic landscape that is both ethereal and raw, like a trudge through a misty forest with a hint of danger lurking in the shadows. Their latest album, "Time Well," is a masterpiece in melancholy. With tracks like "Big World" and "Seedless Star," CLOAKROOM manage to capture the emotional depth of a rainy day spent staring out of a window, while still maintaining a sense of urgency and drive. It's the kind of music that makes you want to sit in a dark room with a glass of whisky and contemplate the meaning of life. But don't be fooled by their brooding exterior - these guys have a wicked sense of humour too. Their live shows are a mix of intense energy and offbeat banter, with Martin's deadpan delivery often leaving the audience in stitches. And let's not forget their penchant for quirky merch (who wouldn't want a CLOAKROOM-branded bathrobe?). In a world saturated with cookie-cutter pop acts and manufactured personas, CLOAKROOM are a breath of fresh air. They may not be for everyone, but for those willing to take a walk on the dark side, they offer a cathartic journey through the shadows of the music industry.
