Our Take
Our Take
KAONASHI's latest album "Dear Lemon House, You Ruined Me: Senior Year" is a rollercoaster of emotions and sonic experimentation. The band combines elements of post-hardcore, emo, and math rock to create a truly unique listening experience.
From the opening track "Adulthood" to the closing ballad "Shattered Dreams", KAONASHI takes listeners on a journey through the ups and downs of growing up and coming to terms with the disappointments of adulthood. The lyrics are raw and introspective, touching on themes of heartbreak, self-doubt, and the struggle to find one's place in the world.
Musically, the band pushes boundaries with complex time signatures, intricate guitar patterns, and powerful vocal performances. The drumming is particularly impressive, driving each song forward with precision and intensity.
Standout tracks include the anthemic "Stuck (On The Frontline)", which showcases the band's ability to seamlessly blend heavy breakdowns with catchy melodies, and the haunting "An Evening of Moving Mountains", a slow-burning ballad that builds to a cathartic climax.
Overall, "Dear Lemon House, You Ruined Me: Senior Year" is a bold and ambitious statement from KAONASHI. It may not be for everyone, but for those willing to dive deep into its emotional depths, it is a rewarding and unforgettable listening experience.

About the artist
Kaonashi
Kaonashi, the Philadelphia-based chaotic hardcore band, is not one to be boxed in. With a sound that can only be described as a whirlwind of emotion and aggression, Kaonashi has been making waves in the underground scene with their unique blend of hardcore, metalcore, and post-hardcore influences. Led by the enigmatic frontman Peter Rono, Kaonashi's live performances are a sight to behold. Rono's raw energy and impassioned vocals are complemented by the tight musicianship of guitarist August Axcelson, bassist Ryan Paolilli, and drummer Roye Terrell. Together, they create a sonic landscape that is both heavy and melodic, with lyrics that delve into themes of mental health, self-discovery, and existential dread. But don't let the serious subject matter fool you – Kaonashi knows how to have a good time. Their off-kilter sense of humour and irreverent attitude shine through in their music videos and social media presence, earning them a dedicated fan base who appreciate their willingness to push the boundaries of what defines hardcore music. With an EP under their belt and a debut album on the horizon, Kaonashi shows no sign of slowing down. Keep an eye out for this band – they're on the verge of breaking through to the mainstream, and when they do, you'll want to be able to say you were there from the beginning.
