Our Take

Ah, SAVATAGE, the masters of heavy metal with a touch of theatrics. Their latest album, Dead Winter Dead, is a rollercoaster of emotions, blending epic guitar riffs with powerful vocals that will have you headbanging one minute and shedding a tear the next.

The opening track, "Overture", sets the scene for the rest of the album with its haunting melodies and dramatic build-up. It's like stepping into a dark and twisted fairytale, where the guitars are your knights in shining armour and the drums are the dragons you have to slay.

But it's tracks like "I Am" and "Symmetry" that really showcase the band's versatility, with softer melodies that tug at your heartstrings before hitting you with a wall of sound that will knock you off your feet. This is heavy metal with a heart, folks.

And let's not forget the epic title track, "Dead Winter Dead", which is a thirteen-minute epic that takes you on a journey through the snowy wastelands of your mind. It's like a movie soundtrack on steroids, with layers upon layers of intricate instrumentation that will leave you breathless.

In conclusion, Dead Winter Dead is a masterpiece of heavy metal storytelling that will leave you spellbound from start to finish. SAVATAGE have once again proven why they are legends in the genre, and this album is a testament to their enduring talent and creativity. Bow down to the kings of metal, for they have delivered a winter wonderland of pure musical magic.

About the artist

Savatage

Formed in Tarpon Springs, Florida in 1979, Savatage is a band that defies all traditional genre boundaries. With their unique blend of progressive metal, power metal, and even elements of classical music, Savatage has carved out a distinct niche in the music industry. Led by brothers Jon and Criss Oliva, Savatage burst onto the scene in the 1980s with their debut album, "Sirens." Known for their technical proficiency and intricate song structures, the band quickly gained a dedicated fanbase around the world. Throughout their career, Savatage has released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including "Gutter Ballet" and "Streets: A Rock Opera." Their ambitious concept albums and theatrical live performances have cemented their reputation as one of the most innovative and boundary-pushing bands in the metal scene. But it hasn't always been smooth sailing for Savatage. Tragedy struck in 1993 when Criss Oliva was killed in a car accident, leaving a void in the band that would never truly be filled. Despite this devastating loss, Savatage soldiered on, releasing several more albums and continuing to push the boundaries of their music. With their blend of shredding guitars, soaring vocals, and epic storytelling, Savatage is a band that refuses to be pigeonholed. Whether you're a die-hard metalhead or just someone looking for something a little bit different, Savatage has something for everyone. So crank up the volume, throw up the horns, and let Savatage take you on a wild and unpredictable musical journey.
