Our Take

David Garrett's "Millennium Symphony" is an ambitious fusion of classical and modern music that will leave you scratching your head in confusion.

On one hand, Garrett's violin virtuosity is undeniable - the man can play circles around most musicians in the industry. However, his decision to mix classical symphonies with pop hits from the turn of the millennium is a bizarre choice that ultimately falls flat.

The album kicks off with a cringe-worthy rendition of Britney Spears' "Oops!...I Did It Again," complete with overly dramatic violin solos that would make even the most avid classical music fan cringe.

Garrett then transitions to classical pieces like Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, but the juxtaposition feels forced and jarring. It's as if he's trying too hard to appeal to a wider audience at the expense of his own integrity as a classical musician.

Despite its flaws, there are moments of brilliance on "Millennium Symphony." Garrett's interpretation of Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" is surprisingly captivating, blending the band's signature anthemic sound with his own unique flair.

In the end, "Millennium Symphony" is a mixed bag that will leave listeners divided. While Garrett's talent is undeniable, his fusion of classical and pop music feels more like a gimmick than a genuine artistic statement.
