Our Take
The Faint's "Danse Macabre" is like a neon-soaked rave in an abandoned graveyard - it's weird, wild, and a whole lot of fun. This album is a fusion of post-punk, new wave, and electronica that shouldn't work, but somehow, it does. From the moment the pulsating bassline of "Agenda Suicide" kicks in, you're hooked - it's like being sucked into a vortex of 80s nostalgia and future dystopia. The production on this album is slicker than a greased-up disco floor, with every synth stab and drum machine hit cutting through the mix like a laser beam. Todd Fink's vocals veer from robotic monotone to urgent wail, adding a sense of urgency and emotion to the dancefloor anthems. Tracks like "Glass Danse" and "Let the Poison Spill From Your Throat" are pure adrenaline-fuelled bangers that will have you jumping and gyrating like there's no tomorrow. But it's not all about the party vibes - slow burners like "Desperate Guys" and "Violent" showcase the band's more introspective side, with moody synths and haunting melodies. Overall, "Danse Macabre" is a rollercoaster ride of a record that will have you dancing, sweating, and possibly questioning your own mortality.
