Our Take
Ah, the Cosmic Psychos, the cheeky lads from down under who never fail to serve up a heaping plate of punk rock goodness. Their latest offering, "Cum The Raw Prawn," comes in the form of a delicious Prawn Cocktail vinyl, because nothing says punk quite like seafood-themed packaging. From the opening track, "Feeding Time," it's clear that the Psychos are sticking to their tried and true formula of gritty guitars, pounding drums, and lyrics that toe the line between absurdity and brilliance. Lead singer Ross Knight's vocals are as delightfully gruff as ever, delivering lines like "I'm a thrashing machine, I run on methamphetamine" with just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek swagger. Tracks like "Dead Roo," "Sick to Live," and "Wombat" keep the energy high and the riffs crunchy, while the slower, sludgy "Neighbours" provides a nice change of pace. The album closes with the rollicking "Cowboy Harry," a fittingly rowdy end to a wild ride of a record. Overall, "Cum The Raw Prawn" is a solid addition to the Cosmic Psychos' discography, a reminder that sometimes all you need is a few chords, a healthy dose of attitude, and a prawn cocktail vinyl to get the party started.
