Our Take

Simple Minds, the Scottish stalwarts of the 80s New Wave scene, return with their latest album "Cryin." Upon first listen, it's clear that the band is not content to rest on their laurels, delving into new sonic territories while still maintaining their signature sound.

The album opens with the hypnotic synth-driven track "Cryin' in the Rain," setting the tone for the rest of the record. Lead singer Jim Kerr's unmistakable vocals soar over intricate rhythms and pulsating bass lines, creating a sense of urgency and drama that is impossible to ignore.

Tracks like "Neon Lights" and "Midnight Sun" showcase the band's ability to create anthemic, stadium-filling tunes that will no doubt have fans raising their lighters in the air. The production on these tracks is top-notch, with layers of synths and guitars blending seamlessly to create a wall of sound that is both epic and captivating.

While "Cryin" may not reach the heights of some of the band's earlier work, it is a solid addition to their discography and a testament to their enduring creativity. Fans of Simple Minds will no doubt find plenty to love on this album, and newcomers may just be converted to the cult of Kerr and co. So grab your shoulder pads, dust off your dancing shoes, and give "Cryin" a spin - you won't be disappointed.
