Our Take
Al Lewis Could Have Done Anything, but unfortunately, he chose to release this album. From the very first track, it's clear that Lewis is aiming for a whimsical, folksy vibe, but instead it comes off as cheesy and contrived. The lyrics are full of cliches about love and heartbreak, without any real depth or originality. The music itself is pleasant enough, with acoustic guitars and gentle melodies, but it lacks any real edge or excitement. It's the musical equivalent of a lukewarm cup of tea - not offensive, but hardly inspiring. Lewis's vocals are competent enough, but lack any real emotion or conviction. It's as if he's going through the motions, rather than truly engaging with the material. The overall effect is one of blandness and mediocrity. In the end, Al Lewis Could Have Done Anything is a forgettable album from an artist who has the potential to do so much more. Hopefully, he'll step up his game in the future and give us something truly original and captivating. But for now, this album is best left on the shelf.
