Our Take
I must say, I was quite excited to give the latest offering from Volcanova a spin. With a title like "Cosmic Bullshit," I was expecting some out-of-this-world musical experiences. However, what I got instead was a bit underwhelming. The album kicks off with a promising track that combines heavy riffs with psychedelic undertones. But as the album progresses, it becomes clear that Volcanova may have fallen into the trap of trying too hard to be edgy and alternative. While the musicianship is undeniably impressive, the overall sound of the album feels like a mishmash of genres that never quite come together cohesively. The songs lack a sense of direction and purpose, leaving the listener feeling a bit lost in the cosmic chaos. That being said, there are some shining moments on the album. Tracks like "Lunar Lullaby" and "Stardust Serenade" showcase the band's potential for creating catchy, infectious hooks. But these moments are few and far between, making it difficult to fully immerse oneself in the album as a whole. In conclusion, "Cosmic Bullshit" is a mixed bag of tricks from Volcanova. While the band shows glimpses of promise, they ultimately fall short of delivering a truly stellar album. Perhaps next time, they should focus less on cosmic theatrics and more on honing their musical craft.
