Our Take
Sloan's latest offering, "Commonwealth," is a fascinating exploration of the Canadian indie rock band's eclectic sound. Split into four distinct sections, each showcasing a different member's songwriting skills, this album is a rollercoaster of musical styles and influences. First up is "Murder in the First Degree," courtesy of guitarist and vocalist Jay Ferguson. With its infectious hooks and catchy chorus, this track is sure to get stuck in your head for days. Next, bassist Chris Murphy brings us the brooding "Keep Swinging (Downtown)," a slow burner that oozes with melancholy and introspection. Guitarist Patrick Pentland kicks things into high gear with the punk-infused "Cleopatra," a raucous anthem that will have you pumping your fist and singing along. And last but not least, drummer Andrew Scott delivers the haunting "13 (Under a Bad Sign)," a chilling closer that lingers long after the final notes have faded out.
