Our Take

If Pitchfork Magazine were to review the album "Commoners Choir" by Commoners Choir, it might sound something like this:

At first glance, Commoners Choir might seem like just another bunch of blokes who have had a few too many pints and decided to belt out some tunes. But don't be fooled – these lads mean business. Their self-titled album is a raucous celebration of working-class solidarity, complete with catchy choruses and a healthy dose of political commentary.

From the infectious energy of "Bread and Roses" to the haunting beauty of "The Ballad of Harry and Paul," Commoners Choir proves that they are more than just a group of lads with a few pints in them. They pack a powerful punch with their tight harmonies and infectious enthusiasm.

But don't get it twisted – this album is not just about the music. Commoners Choir are on a mission to spark a revolution, one song at a time. Whether they're railing against austerity measures or celebrating the power of community, these lads are not afraid to speak truth to power.

So, grab a pint, raise your voice, and join the chorus. Commoners Choir are here to remind us all that music can be a powerful tool for change. Cheers to that, lads.

About the artist

Commoners Choir

Formed in 2015, COMMONERS CHOIR is a vibrant and unapologetically political musical collective hailing from the UK. Led by founder and composer Boff Whalley, best known for his time in the iconic anarcho-punk band Chumbawamba, the choir boasts a rotating lineup of over 100 members from all walks of life. Their sound is a riotous blend of folk, punk, and protest music, delivered with a raucous energy that is sure to get your blood pumping. With their powerful, choral harmonies and infectious melodies, COMMONERS CHOIR has gained a reputation for their electrifying live performances that are as much a political rally as they are a musical show. Their lyrics tackle a range of contemporary issues, from austerity and inequality to environmental activism and social justice. But don't let their serious subject matter fool you - they also know how to have a good time. The choir's infectious energy and communal spirit make for a truly unique live experience that is not to be missed. With their fearless approach to activism and their infectious, anthemic sound, COMMONERS CHOIR is a force to be reckoned with in the world of protest music. Whether they're leading a mass singalong at a political rally or performing in a small club, their message is loud and clear: music has the power to inspire change. So join the choir, raise your voice, and let's make some noise.
