Our Take

The Liverpool Cathedral Choir is back with their latest installment, Alpha Collection Vol. 5: Choral Music From Liverpool Cathedral. This album is like a musical hug from a quaint British granny - warm, comforting, and slightly bonkers.

From the moment they launch into their first track, "Hallelujah Chorus," it's clear that these choir members are not just singing, they're summoning some kind of divine entity. The harmonies are tight, the sopranos soar like angels, and the altos pack a punch that could knock out a heavyweight boxer.

As the album progresses, we're treated to a mix of traditional hymns and more contemporary pieces, all performed with the kind of gusto that can only come from years of singing in a giant cathedral. "Ave Verum Corpus" is a standout track, with its haunting melody and spine-tingling harmonies sending shivers down your spine.

But it's not all serious business - the choir knows how to have fun, too. Their rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone" is pure joy, with the sopranos reaching notes so high they could make dogs howl in delight.
