Our Take

MIKE BRANT's "C'est Ma Priere" is a nostalgic trip down memory lane, but instead of finding buried treasures, you stumble upon a dusty old box of clichés. The French-Israeli pop singer's 1971 album is a mishmash of melodramatic ballads and over-the-top production that feels more dated than a lava lamp in a '70s themed cocktail bar. From the very first track, "Laisse-moi t'aimer", it's clear that Brant's vocal delivery is as shaky as a chocolate mousse on a rollercoaster. His attempts at emoting fall flat, leaving the listener feeling more awkward than a dad dancing at a wedding. And don't even get me started on the cheesy orchestration that sounds like it was lifted straight from a low-budget soap opera. Despite its faults, "C'est Ma Priere" does have its moments. Tracks like "Dis-lui" and "Mais dans la Lumiere" hint at Brant's potential as a crooner, but they're overshadowed by the album's overall lack of direction and cohesion. It's as if Brant threw every musical trope he could think of into a blender and hit "puree". In the end, "C'est Ma Priere" is a forgettable album that fails to make a lasting impression. MIKE BRANT may have been a heartthrob in his day, but this album is more likely to induce eye-rolls than swoons. Stick to the classics, and leave this one gathering dust on the shelf.
