Our Take
Our Take
Kenny G's "Breathless" is like a warm cuppa on a rainy day - comforting, familiar, but ultimately lacking in excitement. The smooth jazz maestro's signature saxophone sound is present throughout the album, but fails to truly captivate or surprise.
Tracks like "Forever in Love" and "Sentimental" offer up the kind of easy-listening vibes that Kenny G is known for, perfect for a relaxing Sunday afternoon or a romantic evening in. However, the lack of diversity in sound and style leaves much to be desired. Where is the edge? The experimentation? The sense of musical adventure?
It's all too easy to get lost in the dreamy, mellow melodies of "Silhouette" or the soothing grooves of "The Joy of Life", but after a while, it all starts to blend together into one long, meandering journey through elevator music territory.
While Kenny G's technical prowess is undeniable, his ability to push boundaries or challenge listeners is sorely lacking on "Breathless". It's an album that plays it safe, sticking to the tried and tested formula that has made him a household name, but ultimately fails to leave a lasting impression.
In the end, "Breathless" is a pleasant enough listen for fans of smooth jazz, but for those looking for something more adventurous or innovative, it may leave them feeling a little... well, breathless.
