Our Take
Ding dong, the witch is dead - or at least, on a brief hiatus. Black Sabbath's 1983 release "Born Again" sees the legendary heavy metal pioneers without their iconic frontman, Ozzy Osbourne, who had temporarily departed to pursue other endeavors (like biting the heads off of bats, probably). In his place, they recruited Deep Purple's Ian Gillan, whose vocals are as sharp as a double-edged sword - fitting for a band known for their dark and heavy sound. The album kicks off with the ominous "Trashed", a high-energy romp that sets the tone for what's to come. Tracks like "Disturbing the Priest" and "Digital Bitch" showcase the band's knack for channelling their inner demons into blistering riffs and thunderous drums. And let's not forget the harrowing album cover, featuring a demonic baby straight out of your nightmares. Classic Sabbath, am I right? While "Born Again" may not reach the same heights as their earlier work, it's a bold experiment that shows the band's willingness to take risks and push boundaries.
