Our Take
Our Take
A whirlwind of punk-infused energy and quirky storytelling, BLACK FRANCIS' "Bluefinger" on Marbled Blue Vinyl is a delightful trip down the rabbit hole of alternative rock. Originally released in 2007, this reissue is a welcome addition to any vinyl enthusiast's collection.
From the opening track "Captain Pasty" to the closing "Threshold Apprehension," BLACK FRANCIS' distinctive vocals and guitar work shine brightly on this album. The raw, unapologetic energy of tracks like "You Can't Break a Heart and Have it," will have you headbanging and air-guitaring in no time.
The album takes inspiration from the life and death of the iconic Dutch artist Herman Brood, with Black Francis weaving tales of love, loss, and existential dread against a backdrop of scuzzy guitars and crashing drums. Tracks like "Tight Black Rubber" and "Threshold Apprehension" showcase BLACK FRANCIS' ability to blend catchy hooks with dark, introspective lyrics.
With its mix of punk, psych-rock, and new wave influences, "Bluefinger" is a must-listen for fans of alternative music looking for something a bit off-kilter. So put on your headphones, drop the needle on this marbled blue beauty, and let BLACK FRANCIS take you on a wild and unforgettable ride.

About the artist
Black Francis
Stephen "Black Francis" Thompson, frontman of the legendary alternative rock band Pixies, is a paradox wrapped in an enigma, topped with a hearty dollop of whimsy. With his signature yowl and off-kilter songwriting, Black Francis has left an indelible mark on the music landscape since the late 80s. Hailing from sunny Los Angeles, Black Francis (born Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV – try saying that five times fast) burst onto the scene with Pixies' groundbreaking album "Surfer Rosa," which featured classics like "Bone Machine" and "Where Is My Mind?" His unorthodox approach to songwriting, blending surrealist imagery with raw emotional honesty, has earned him a legion of devoted fans and imitators. Despite Pixies' initial breakup in the early 90s, Black Francis continued to release solo albums under his own name and as Black Francis, showcasing his eclectic musical influences and penchant for experimentation. Whether he's crooning a melancholic ballad or unleashing a full-throttle punk rocker, Black Francis never fails to captivate audiences with his unique brand of musical alchemy. In recent years, Pixies have reunited and continued to tour, proving that Black Francis is a force to be reckoned with both in the studio and on stage. With his distinctive voice, enigmatic lyrics, and penchant for pushing boundaries, Black Francis remains a true iconoclast in the world of alternative rock. So grab your flannel shirt, crank up the volume, and let Black Francis take you on a sonic journey like no other.
