Our Take

Blue Notes sophomore album is definitely a mixed bag, like a bag of pick 'n' mix that you've been craving all week and then you get home and it's full of black liquorice. You know, that one flavour that ruins everything.

The opening track "Rainy Days" is a jazzy, soulful number that will make you want to dim the lights and pour yourself a glass of red wine, even if it's only 10am on a Tuesday. But then things take a turn with the second track "Sunshine and Rainbows", which sounds like it was written by a toddler banging on a toy piano.

The standout track on the album has to be "Midnight Stroll", a hauntingly beautiful ballad that will make you want to grab your headphones and take a walk through the city streets at midnight, even if you live in the suburbs and are scared of the dark.

Overall, Blue Notes have created an album that is both captivating and confusing, like a crossword puzzle that you just can't seem to finish. It's definitely worth a listen, if only to experience the rollercoaster of emotions that this band will take you on. Just make sure you have some actual blue notes handy, because you might need them to soothe your soul after listening.
