Our Take
Our Take
If Pitchfork were to describe "Blood Pressures" by The Kills in a single word, it would have to be: raw.
From the screeching guitars to the sultry vocals, this album is a rollercoaster ride of emotions and energy. Alison Mosshart's raw vocals are like a punch in the gut, while Jamie Hince's gritty guitar work is enough to make even the most seasoned rock fan sit up and take notice.
Tracks like "Future Starts Slow" and "Satellite" showcase The Kills at their best, blending garage rock with punk sensibilities in a way that feels fresh and exciting. The production value may not be as polished as some other mainstream releases, but that only adds to the charm of this album.
One of the standout tracks on "Blood Pressures" is the hauntingly beautiful "Baby Says," which sees Mosshart's vocals take centre stage over a stripped-down arrangement. It's a moment of vulnerability in an otherwise rough and tumble album, and it's a welcome change of pace.
Overall, The Kills have delivered a solid effort with "Blood Pressures." It may not reinvent the wheel, but it's a testament to the power of raw, unadulterated rock music. So, grab a pint, crank up the volume, and let The Kills take you on a wild ride. Cheers!
