Our Take

The latest offering from the Darren Phillips Project, "Best Man For You," is a tribute to the legendary Paul Stanley of KISS fame. A bold move, considering Stanley's larger-than-life persona, but Phillips and his band tackle the challenge with gusto.

From the opening track "I Was Made For Loving You," it's clear that this album is a labour of love. The band captures the catchy hooks and infectious energy of KISS, while adding their own unique spin. Phillips' vocals are filled with passion and exuberance, perfectly capturing the spirit of Stanley's original recordings.

Standout tracks include "Love Gun," where the band injects a fresh energy into the classic rock anthem, and "Detroit Rock City," which is a full-throttle rocker that will have you banging your head in no time.

However, not every track hits the mark. The slower ballads like "Forever" feel a bit lacklustre in comparison to the more upbeat numbers, and the production can be a bit muddy at times.

Overall, "Best Man For You" is a fun and nostalgic tribute to one of rock's greatest frontmen. While it may not reach the heights of a classic KISS album, it's definitely worth a listen for fans of the band or anyone looking for a dose of old-school rock 'n' roll. So grab your platform boots and leather jacket, and rock out to the Darren Phillips Project's latest release.

About the artist

Darren Phillips Project

Darren Phillips Project is the quirky, genre-defying brainchild of the enigmatic singer-songwriter, Darren Phillips. With a career spanning over two decades, Phillips has established himself as a true musical chameleon, effortlessly blending elements of pop, rock, and electronica to create a sound that is uniquely his own. Hailing from the bustling streets of London, Darren Phillips Project first burst onto the music scene in the early 2000s with their debut album, "Electric Dreams." Drawing inspiration from the likes of David Bowie, Prince, and Depeche Mode, Phillips' music is a vibrant tapestry of sonic experimentation and infectious melodies. One listen to tracks such as "Neon Nights" and "Retrograde" will transport you to a world where synth-pop meets indie rock, and where nostalgia collides with modern sensibilities. Phillips' distinctive vocals and thought-provoking lyrics add an extra layer of depth to his already captivating sound, making each track a musical journey in its own right. But don't let the retro influences fool you - Darren Phillips Project is anything but a nostalgia act. With their latest album, "Future Shock," the band proves that they are firmly rooted in the present, tackling themes of technology, identity, and social change with a fresh, contemporary twist. In a music industry that often favours conformity over creativity, Darren Phillips Project dares to stand out from the crowd, marching to the beat of their own drum and carving out a space for themselves in the ever-evolving musical landscape. Love them or hate them, one thing is for certain - Darren Phillips Project is here to stay, and they're not taking any prisoners.
