Our Take

Fleetwood Mac's 1990 album "Behind The Mask" is a curious creature, a strange blend of new wave pop and classic rock that somehow manages to both intrigue and confuse. With Lindsey Buckingham's departure leaving a hole in the band, the addition of guitarists Billy Burnette and Rick Vito brings a different energy to the group, one that feels both fresh and slightly disorienting.

From the opening track "Skies the Limit", it's clear that this isn't the Fleetwood Mac we all know and love. The glossy production, catchy hooks, and synthesizer-heavy sound give the album a distinctly 80s feel that may not sit well with die-hard fans of the band's earlier work. But if you can get past the nostalgia, there are some gems to be found here.

Songs like "Love Is Dangerous" and "Freedom" showcase the band's ability to craft infectious pop tunes, while the haunting ballad "Behind The Mask" proves that Stevie Nicks' songwriting chops are as strong as ever. But it's the weird and wonderful "Affairs of the Heart" that really steals the show, with its quirky lyrics and infectious groove.

Overall, "Behind The Mask" is a divisive album that may not be to everyone's taste. But for those willing to take a chance on Fleetwood Mac's experimental phase, there are plenty of rewards to be found. So put on your dancing shoes, embrace the 80s vibes, and give this album a spin - you might just be pleasantly surprised.
