In a bizarre fusion of classical compositions and Celtic influences, VARIOUS ARTISTS presents Beethoven's Celtic Voice. This album promises a wild ride through centuries and genres, but does it deliver? Well, let's just say Beethoven may be rolling in his grave.
The opening track, a Celtic reimagining of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, kicks things off with a bang - and not necessarily in a good way. The traditional Irish instruments clash with the orchestral elements, creating a cacophony that leaves listeners scratching their heads.
As the album progresses, the strange mashup of styles continues to baffle and bemuse. From a jig-inspired take on the Moonlight Sonata to a bodhran-heavy rendition of Für Elise, each track seems to veer further and further off the rails.
But amidst the chaos, there are moments of brilliance. The haunting vocals on a Gaelic interpretation of Beethoven's Ode to Joy are truly mesmerising, and the blend of bagpipes and harpsichord on the final track somehow works in a weirdly wonderful way.
In the end, Beethoven's Celtic Voice is a perplexing listen. It's like watching a car crash in slow motion - you can't look away, even though you know it's not going to end well. But hey, at least it's a fun ride.
