With his distinctive falsetto vocals, spacey guitar riffs, and mind-bending lyrics, Allen has been pushing the boundaries of experimental rock for over five decades. Born in Australia in 1938, Allen first made a name for himself as a founding member of the influential psychedelic rock band Soft Machine in the mid-1960s. Known for their intricate jazz-infused compositions and freewheeling improvisational style, Soft Machine quickly gained a cult following and paved the way for the progressive rock movement that would follow. After leaving Soft Machine in the late 1960s, Allen embarked on a solo career that would see him collaborate with a diverse range of artists, from Gong and Hawkwind to David Gilmour and Robert Wyatt. His solo work, characterized by its eccentric blend of space rock, jazz, and spoken word poetry, has earned him a reputation as one of the most innovative and otherworldly musicians of his generation. Despite his passing in 2015, Daevid Allen's musical legacy continues to inspire and intrigue fans around the globe. With his boundless creativity, irreverent sense of humour, and infectious joy for life, Allen remains a true original in the world of music.
