Our Take
Chris 'Bad News' Barnes presents us with a glam rock-infused rollercoaster ride on his latest album, BadNews Rising. With a voice that sounds like a mixture of Freddie Mercury and a screeching cat, Barnes delivers over-the-top performances that will leave you both confused and entertained. From the opening track "Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare," Barnes sets the tone for the album with its bombastic guitar riffs and ridiculous lyrics. You can't help but be taken in by his eccentric charm and energy, even if you find yourself cringing at some of the more cheesy moments. The standout track has to be "Love Bites (But So Do I)," a power ballad that showcases Barnes' vocal range and his ability to tug at your heartstrings. It's a song that will have you reaching for the nearest hairbrush microphone and belting out the chorus at the top of your lungs. Throughout the album, Barnes wears his influences on his sleeve, with nods to classic rock bands like Queen and Def Leppard. However, he manages to put his own unique spin on things, injecting a healthy dose of ridiculousness and fun into each track. While BadNews Rising may not be for everyone, those who can appreciate a good dose of camp and theatrics will find plenty to enjoy here.
