Our Take
Our Take
This re-issue of The Flower Kings' "Back In The World Of Adventures" is like finding a forgotten gem at the back of your wardrobe - full of nostalgic charm but also a few questionable fashion choices. Released in 1995, this album showcases the Swedish prog rock band at their most whimsical, with elaborate compositions and fantastical lyrics that transport you to a world where time signatures don't matter and solos are always shredding.
From the opening track "World Of Adventures" to the epic finale "The Flower King," this album is a rollercoaster of musical styles and influences. Roine Stolt's guitar work is as intricate as ever, weaving in and out of Tomas Bodin's cosmic keyboards with the precision of a Swiss watchmaker. And let's not forget the powerhouse rhythm section of Jonas Reingold and Jaime Salazar, who keep the whole thing chugging along like a prog rock locomotive.
But as much as I love getting lost in The Flower Kings' sonic universe, there are moments on this album that feel a bit dated. The production can be a bit muddy at times, and some of the lyrics veer dangerously close to Spinal Tap territory. However, if you're willing to overlook these small flaws, "Back In The World Of Adventures" is a wild ride that's worth taking - just make sure you've got your prog rock safety helmet on.
