Our Take
Madonna's latest offering, "Australiain," is like a Vegemite sandwich - you either love it or hate it. The Queen of Pop takes us on a musical journey Down Under, with influences ranging from Aussie rock to didgeridoo beats. The album kicks off with the catchy single "Outback Queen," a boppy ode to the land of kangaroos and koalas. Tracks like "Sydney Nights" and "Melbourne Melodies" showcase Madonna's versatility as she effortlessly switches from pop diva to indie darling. The standout track, "Bondi Beach Bonanza," is a shimmering disco anthem that will have you dreaming of summer vibes and sandy toes. However, not all is sunshine and rainbows on "Australiain." The album's attempts at incorporating Aboriginal sounds feel forced and gimmicky, leaving a sour taste in the mouth. And let's not even mention the cringe-worthy faux Aussie accent Madonna attempts to pull off - Sheila, please stick to singing. Overall, "Australiain" is a mixed bag of bangers and clangers. While Madonna's experimentation is commendable, it sometimes falls flat. But hey, at least it's a fun ride - just like a wild kangaroo hopping through the Outback.
