Born Jalacy Hawkins in Cleveland, Ohio in 1929, Hawkins started his music career in the 1950s, releasing his debut single "I Put a Spell on You" in 1956. The song, with its hypnotic vocals and haunting melody, became his signature tune and catapulted him to fame. Hawkins' music is a fascinating blend of rock, R&B, and voodoo imagery, creating a sound that is unlike anything else in the music world. His live performances were legendary for their theatrics, with Hawkins often appearing on stage in a coffin, surrounded by smoke and fire. Despite never achieving mainstream commercial success, Hawkins' influence on music is undeniable.
