Our Take

Ah, STATUS QUO, the unyielding kings of boogie rock, have now embarked on a bold new acoustic journey with their latest release, Aquostic II: That's A Fact! This album sees the veteran rockers strip down their classic hits to their bare acoustic bones, showcasing a more intimate and stripped-back side to their music.

From the moment that iconic opening riff of "Whatever You Want" kicks in, you can't help but be drawn into the raw emotion and infectious energy that radiates from these reimagined tracks. Francis Rossi's gravelly vocals are still as powerful as ever, proving that age has only added a richer depth to his delivery.

The real standout moments on this album come when the band dives into unexpected territory, such as their haunting rendition of "Living On An Island" or the poignant "Marguerita Time." These tracks showcase a vulnerability and maturity that we haven't seen from STATUS QUO before, adding a new layer of complexity to their sound.

But fear not, Quo purists, there are still plenty of foot-stomping, head-bobbing moments to be found here. The rollicking "Caroline" and the energetic "Roll Over Lay Down" are sure to transport you back to the band's classic heyday, while tracks like "In The Army Now" and "In The Army Now" showcase a fresh, acoustic take on these timeless favourites.

Overall, Aquostic II: That's A Fact! is a delightful, unexpected gem from a band that refuses to rest on their laurels. STATUS QUO may be acoustic now, but their rock 'n' roll spirit is still alive and kicking. A must-listen for fans old and new.

About the artist

Status Quo

Status Quo: The Band That Won't Stop Rockin' Picture this: it's 1967, the Summer of Love is in full swing, and along comes a band that couldn't care less about flower power or psychedelic drugs. That's right, it's Status Quo, the denim-clad rockers who have been belting out riff-heavy anthems for over five decades. Formed in London in 1962, Status Quo initially found success in the UK with their psychedelic sound before undergoing a musical transformation in the early 70s. It was the release of their album "Piledriver" in 1972 that solidified their signature boogie rock sound, characterized by infectious guitar riffs and uncompromisingly catchy hooks. But what truly sets Status Quo apart from their classic rock counterparts is their unwavering commitment to their sound and style. While other bands may have experimented with different genres or trends over the years, Status Quo have remained steadfast in their dedication to delivering straight-up rock 'n' roll. Their live performances are the stuff of legends, with frontman Francis Rossi and guitarist Rick Parfitt (RIP) trading blistering solos and keeping audiences on their feet for hours on end. And let's not forget the trademark head bobbing and shuffling that has become synonymous with a Status Quo show. So whether you're a die-hard fan or a casual listener, there's no denying the enduring appeal of Status Quo. With a career spanning six decades and over 100 million records sold worldwide, it's safe to say that these rock legends show no signs of slowing down. Keep on rockin', Status Quo.
