At first glance, Balthazar's latest offering, "Applause," might seem like just another run-of-the-mill indie pop album. But don't let its unassuming facade fool you - this Belgian band's fifth studio album is anything but ordinary.
From the opening track, "Losers," it's clear that Balthazar is here to make a statement. With its infectious bassline and soulful vocals, this song sets the tone for what is to come - a masterclass in sophisticated pop music.
Tracks like "On A Roll" and "You Won't Come Around" showcase Balthazar's knack for crafting catchy melodies and clever lyrics. But it's on songs like "Moment" and "Never Gonna Let You Down Again" where the band truly shines, blending elements of funk, soul, and disco to create a sound that is uniquely their own.
Lead singer Jinte Deprez's smooth vocals are at the forefront of each track, effortlessly gliding over the band's tight instrumentation. And with the help of co-vocalist Maarten Devoldere, Balthazar's harmonies are nothing short of mesmerising.
