About the artist

Esben and the Witch

ESBEN & THE WITCH are not your average band. Hailing from Brighton, this trio consists of vocalist Rachel Davies, guitarist Thomas Fisher, and drummer Daniel Copeman. Their sound is a haunting blend of post-punk, shoegaze, and dark wave that transports listeners to another realm. With a name inspired by a Danish fairy tale, ESBEN & THE WITCH weave intricate sonic landscapes that are both ethereal and intense. Davies' mesmerizing vocals float over Fisher's intricate guitar work and Copeman's powerful drumming, creating a sound that is at once hypnotic and exhilarating. Their debut album, "Violet Cries", released in 2011, received critical acclaim for its brooding atmosphere and dream-like quality. Tracks like "Marching Song" and "Warpath" showcase the band's ability to create sweeping, cinematic soundscapes that draw listeners in and refuse to let go. In 2014, ESBEN & THE WITCH released their sophomore album, "Wash the Sins Not Only the Face", which further solidified their reputation as one of the most exciting bands in the UK underground scene. Songs like "No Dog" and "Deathwaltz" explore themes of transformation and rebirth, set against a backdrop of swirling guitars and pounding drums. ESBEN & THE WITCH are not afraid to push boundaries and experiment with their sound, creating music that is both challenging and rewarding. With their unique blend of gothic aesthetics and psychedelic influences, this band is definitely one to watch. Catch them live if you can - their spellbinding performances are not to be missed.
