Our Take

Anita O'Day's "An Evening With Anita" is like a refreshing G&T on a hot summer's day - smooth, sophisticated, and guaranteed to leave you feeling fabulous. This limited edition release of the jazz icon's live recordings is a real treat for fans old and new, with four bonus tracks thrown in for good measure.

O'Day's vocals are as flawless as ever, effortlessly gliding through classics like "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Tea for Two" with her trademark saucy charm. The band behind her is on fire, their swinging rhythms and brassy solos perfectly complementing her mellow tones.

The standout track has to be her rendition of "Honeysuckle Rose", where O'Day's scatting skills are truly showcased. It's a joy to listen to, a masterclass in vocal improvisation that will leave you in awe of her talent.

But it's not all smooth sailing - there are a couple of tracks where O'Day's vocals seem to falter slightly, losing some of their usual sparkle. However, these moments are few and far between, and overall, "An Evening With Anita" is a delightful listen that will transport you back to the golden age of jazz.

So pour yourself a cocktail, dim the lights, and let Anita O'Day serenade you into the night. It's a musical experience you won't soon forget. Cheers!

With her signature bob haircut and larger-than-life personality, O'Day is a force to be reckoned with in the world of music. Born in Chicago in 1919, O'Day quickly made a name for herself as a fearless performer with a voice that could stop you in your tracks. She rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the legendary big bands of Stan Kenton and Gene Krupa, where she captivated audiences with her unique blend of swing and sass.
