Our Take
Our Take
Marillion has always been known for their epic, prog-rock anthems, but with their latest album "American Airwaves," they are taking a new direction that may surprise some fans. Instead of long, meandering songs, the band has opted for a more concise and focused approach, delivering a collection of tight, radio-friendly tracks that still maintain their trademark sound.
From the opening track "City Lights" to the closing ballad "Goodnight, Hollywood," the album takes listeners on a journey through the highs and lows of life in America. Lead singer Steve Hogarth's vocals are as haunting and powerful as ever, while the band's musicianship is as tight and impressive as ever.
Standout tracks include the anthemic "Sunset Boulevard" with its infectious chorus and driving guitar riffs, and the haunting ballad "Lost in Translation" which showcases the band's more introspective side. The production on the album is top-notch, with each instrument shining through clearly and adding depth to the overall sound.
Overall, "American Airwaves" is a bold and successful departure for Marillion, showing that they are not afraid to experiment with their sound while still retaining the essence of what makes them great. Fans of the band's classic work will find plenty to love here, while newcomers may be pleasantly surprised by this new direction. A solid effort from a band that continues to defy expectations.
