Our Take
Ah, Richard Ashcroft. The man, the myth, the legend. Well, maybe not so much a myth, but definitely a man. And Alone With Everybody is his latest offering to the music world.
Let's start with the album cover - a brooding Ashcroft staring off into the distance, looking like he just found out the milk in his fridge has gone bad. But don't let that put you off, because the music inside is actually pretty decent.
Ashcroft's signature soulful vocals are on full display in tracks like "A Song for the Lovers" and "C'mon People (We're Making It Now)", where he croons about love, life, and probably a few other things that rhyme with "above". The instrumentation is solid, with soaring guitars and lush strings that really elevate the songs to another level.
But let's not sugarcoat it - there are a few misses on this album as well. "Brave New World" feels a bit too much like a leftover from Ashcroft's days with The Verve, and "Money to Burn" just doesn't quite hit the mark.
Overall, Alone With Everybody is a solid effort from Ashcroft, showcasing his talent as a songwriter and vocalist. So grab yourself a cup of tea, put on your favourite pair of sunglasses, and give this album a listen. Who knows, you might just find yourself alone with everybody, in a good way.
