Our Take

GUNS N' ROSES Almost 88 Review:

Ah, GUNS N' ROSES, the band that brought us anthems like "Sweet Child o' Mine" and "Welcome to the Jungle." Almost 88 is a collection of tracks that never made it onto their iconic debut album, Appetite for Destruction. But does this forgotten album deserve a second chance in the spotlight?

The album kicks off with "Ain't Goin' Down," a gritty, bluesy number that showcases Axl Rose's signature wail and Slash's fiery guitar licks. It's a solid opener that sets the tone for the rest of the record. "Here Today Gone Tomorrow" is a fast-paced rocker that will have you headbanging in no time, while "Heartbreak Hotel" channels Elvis Presley with a rock 'n' roll twist.

However, Almost 88 isn't without its missteps. Tracks like "Love Kills" and "Shadow of Your Love" feel like filler material, lacking the energy and heart of GNR's best work. The album's production also feels a bit dated, with muddy guitars and muddy vocals at times.

But overall, Almost 88 is a fun listen for hardcore GNR fans looking to dive deeper into the band's discography. While it may not reach the heights of Appetite for Destruction, it's a solid addition to any rock enthusiast's collection.

About the artist

Guns N' Roses

Ah, Guns N' Roses, the iconic rock band that never fails to deliver a wild ride of head-banging anthems and ballads that tug at your rebellious heartstrings. Known for their larger-than-life personalities, gnarly guitar riffs, and electrifying stage presence, this motley crew of rock legends has cemented their place in music history as one of the greatest bands of all time. Led by the enigmatic frontman Axl Rose, whose flamboyant stage antics and powerful vocals have captivated audiences for decades, Guns N' Roses has had more ups and downs than a rollercoaster at a rock 'n' roll theme park. From chart-topping hits like "Sweet Child o' Mine" to their epic comeback tour in 2016, these rockers have proven time and time again that they are not just a band, but a force of nature. With a lineup that has seen more changes than a Taylor Swift album, Guns N' Roses has weathered storms that would have sunk lesser bands. Slash's blistering guitar solos, Duff McKagan's thunderous bass lines, and the rest of the crew's undeniable talent have kept fans coming back for more, year after year. So, whether you're a die-hard fan who knows every word to "Paradise City" or a casual listener who just loves to rock out, Guns N' Roses is a band that transcends genre, time, and space. So put on your leather jacket, grab a cold beer, and crank up the volume because Guns N' Roses is here to take you on a wild ride that you won't soon forget.
