Cheap Trick is back and more washed up than ever with their latest limited edition release, "All Washed Up." The alluring clear/orange/blue marble vinyl packaging may catch your eye, but don't be fooled - this album is a mixed bag of chaotic energy and questionable decisions. From the opening track "Soggy Bottom Blues" to the closing ballad "Sink or Swim," Cheap Trick takes us on a rollercoaster ride of cheesy lyrics and forgettable melodies. While their signature power-pop sound is still present, it feels tired and out of touch with the modern music scene. Lead singer Robin Zander's vocals are as strong as ever, but even he can't save tracks like "Bubble Bath Boogie" and "Rubber Ducky Love." The band seems to be grasping at straws, desperately trying to recapture their glory days. That being said, there are a few shining moments on the album. "Splash Zone Serenade" has a catchy hook that will have you tapping your foot, and "Drainpipe Dreams" showcases some impressive guitar work from Rick Nielsen. In the end, "All Washed Up" feels like a nostalgic trip down memory lane that ultimately falls flat. While die-hard fans may appreciate the effort, new listeners may struggle to find anything to latch onto. Stick to Cheap Trick's classic albums and leave this one floating in the bargain bin.
