Our Take
Our Take
In the grand tapestry of rock 'n' roll history, there are those who effortlessly embody the spirit of the genre and then there are those who try a bit too hard. Unfortunately, HAWKINS falls into the latter category with their latest album "Ain't Rock N Rollin".
As the title suggests, this album is a fine example of what rock 'n' roll isn't. From the cliched guitar riffs to the uninspired lyrics, HAWKINS seems to have missed the memo on what makes this genre so timeless. It's as if they took all the most overused rock 'n' roll tropes and threw them together without any semblance of creativity or originality.
The lead singer's gravelly voice is reminiscent of a poor imitation of your drunk uncle at a karaoke bar, and the production is so muddy that you can barely make out individual instruments. The lack of cohesion in the songs makes it feel more like a collection of rough demos rather than a cohesive album.
Overall, "Ain't Rock N Rollin" feels like a parody of a rock 'n' roll album, rather than a genuine tribute to the genre. It's a shame, as HAWKINS clearly has talent, but they seem too caught up in trying to fit into a mold that simply doesn't suit them. Stick to the classics, lads.

About the artist
The Hawkins
HAWKINS is the enigmatic musical genius we never knew we needed. With a sound that blends the raw energy of punk rock with the poetic lyricism of indie folk, this singer-songwriter is a force to be reckoned with. Born and raised in the gritty streets of East London, HAWKINS has always been drawn to the power of music as a means of self-expression. From a young age, they were captivated by the likes of David Bowie and Patti Smith, whose fearless approach to artistry continues to inspire HAWKINS to this day. Their debut album, "Rebel Heart," was a game-changer in the industry, earning critical acclaim for its visceral honesty and infectious melodies. Tracks like "Riot in My Soul" and "Broken Glass" are anthems for the misunderstood misfits of the world, while "Silent Screams" showcases HAWKINS' softer, introspective side. But don't let their melancholic lyrics fool you - HAWKINS is also known for their wicked sense of humour and rebellious attitude on stage. From smashing guitars to mooning the crowd, there's never a dull moment when HAWKINS is in town. With their distinctive style and magnetic stage presence, HAWKINS has quickly become a fan favourite on the music scene. Whether you're a die-hard punk rocker or a sensitive folk enthusiast, there's something for everyone in the electrifying world of HAWKINS. Keep your eyes (and ears) peeled for this rising star - they're destined for greatness.
