Our Take

After Forever's self-titled album is a rollercoaster of emotions, much like a British soap opera on steroids. From the get-go, you're hit with explosive guitar riffs, pounding drums, and haunting vocals that make you want to throw your hands in the air and rock out like it's 1985.

The opening track, "Discord," sets the tone with its powerful symphonic elements and Floor Jansen's soaring vocals, which sound like they could shatter glass. It's a track that demands your attention and refuses to let go.

As you delve deeper into the album, you're met with a tantalising mix of metal, gothic, and pop influences that shouldn't work together, but somehow do. Tracks like "Energize Me" and "Equally Destructive" showcase the band's ability to seamlessly blend genres while still maintaining a sense of cohesiveness.

However, it's not all sunshine and rainbows on this record. The ballad "Lonely" may induce a few eye rolls with its over-the-top lyrics and cheesy orchestration. But hey, every album has its weak points, right?

Overall, After Forever's self-titled album is a wild ride that's sure to leave you breathless. It's a testament to the band's talent and willingness to take risks, even if they don't always pay off. So grab your headphones, sit back, and prepare to be blown away by this electrifying journey through the world of symphonic metal.
