Our Take
Kinski's latest offering, "Accustomed to Your Face," is a rollercoaster ride of psychedelic distortion and blissed-out guitar riffs that will leave you questioning whether you've accidentally wandered into a time machine set for the 90s. From the moment the album kicks off with the thunderous drums of "Guest Girl Vocalist," you know you're in for a wild ride. The Seattle-based quartet's signature blend of noise rock and shoegaze has never sounded more chaotic and yet strangely melodic. Tracks like "I Just Longed to See You," "Riff Dancer," and "Bulletproof Cupid" showcase the band's ability to seamlessly transition from dreamy, atmospheric passages to full-on sonic assaults. Guitarists Chris Martin and Matthew Reid-Schwartz weave intricate layers of feedback and distortion, creating an immersive wall of sound that envelops the listener. Vocalist/guitarist Lucy Atkinson's ethereal vocals float effortlessly over the swirling chaos, adding a touch of sweetness to the band's otherwise brash sound. Drummer Barrett Wilke's thunderous beats drive the songs forward with an almost hypnotic intensity. Overall, "Accustomed to Your Face" is a bold and uncompromising statement from a band that shows no signs of slowing down.
