About the artist
Alison Rayner Quintet
ARQ, better known as the Alison Rayner Quintet, is a jazz ensemble that has been making waves in the music industry for over a decade. Led by the talented double bassist Alison Rayner, this quintet is not your typical jazz band. The band's dynamic sound is a fusion of traditional jazz elements with influences from funk, Latin, and even a hint of rock. Rayner's bass playing is the heartbeat of the group, providing a solid foundation for the rest of the band to build upon. And build they do, with each member bringing their own unique flair to the table. Take saxophonist Diane McLoughlin, for example. Her smooth yet fiery solos add an element of unpredictability to the group's sound. Then there's Deirdre Cartwright on guitar, whose intricate melodies weave seamlessly with Rayner's basslines. Steve Lodder's vibrant keyboard playing and Buster Birch's dynamic drumming round out the quintet, creating a sound that is both cohesive and exhilarating. But what really sets ARQ apart is their infectious energy and undeniable chemistry on stage. Watching them perform live is an experience like no other, as they effortlessly improvise and feed off each other's energy. It's a testament to their musical talent and camaraderie as a band. In a music scene saturated with cookie-cutter jazz ensembles, ARQ stands out as a refreshing and innovative voice. Their music is a testament to the power of collaboration and creativity, and we can't wait to see where their musical journey takes them next. ARQ is a quintet that's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
