Our Take
Eyelids' latest offering, "A Colossal Waste of Light," seems hellbent on living up to its name. From the moment you hit play, you're bombarded with an onslaught of mediocrity and missed opportunities. It's like being stuck in a lift with your least favorite office colleague - uncomfortable, awkward, and a total waste of time. The opening track kicks off with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the face, with generic riffs and uninspired lyrics that leave you longing for something, anything, to break up the monotony. As the album trudges on, it becomes painfully clear that Eyelids have mistaken quantity for quality, throwing everything but the kitchen sink into the mix and hoping something sticks. Spoiler alert: nothing does. The production is as muddy as a festival field after a downpour, with each instrument fighting for attention in a losing battle. It's a cacophonous mess that only serves to highlight the lack of any discernible hooks or melodies. By the time you reach the halfway point, you'll be praying for a power cut to put you out of your misery. In conclusion, "A Colossal Waste of Light" is a forgettable, by-the-numbers affair that will have you reaching for the skip button faster than you can say 'one-hit wonder'.
