Our Take

Returning from their punk rock hiatus, DESCENDENTS deliver a blast from the past with their latest album "9th & Walnut." Harkening back to their early days, the band digs into their archives to unearth a collection of songs written before their seminal debut 'Milo Goes to College.'

From the first track, it's clear that DESCENDENTS haven't lost their edge. The raw energy and snotty attitude that made them legends in the punk scene are still very much present. Tracks like "Baby Doncha Know" and "Like the Way I Know" showcase the band's signature blend of catchy melodies and biting lyrics.

But while the album is a nostalgic trip down memory lane, it also showcases the band's growth and maturity over the years. Tracks like "Nightage" and "Ride the Wild" show a more introspective side of DESCENDENTS, with lyrics that explore themes of love, loss, and longing.

Overall, "9th & Walnut" is a welcome addition to the DESCENDENTS' discography. It's a reminder of why the band became punk rock icons in the first place, while also showing that they still have plenty of gas left in the tank. Whether you're a die-hard DESCENDENTS fan or a newcomer to their music, this album is definitely worth a spin.

About the artist

Descendents

To those in the know, DESCENDENTS are more than just a band. They are a pop-punk institution, a vital force in the genre since their inception in 1977. With a career spanning over four decades, this California quartet has left an indelible mark on the music world with their unique blend of melodic hooks, blistering guitars, and witty, introspective lyrics. Led by frontman Milo Aukerman's distinctive vocals and quirky humour, DESCENDENTS have cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase that spans generations. Their influence can be heard in countless bands that followed in their wake, cementing their status as one of punk rock's most enduring acts. Known for their high-energy live shows and infectious anthems, DESCENDENTS have continued to captivate audiences around the globe with their unapologetically nerdy charm. Songs like "I'm the One" and "Coffee Mug" have become veritable classics, showcasing the band's ability to blend pop sensibilities with punk rock attitude. With their latest album, Hypercaffium Spazzinate, DESCENDENTS prove that they can still deliver the goods after all these years. The record is a testament to the band's enduring vitality, featuring catchy hooks, razor-sharp riffs, and Aukerman's trademark wit. In a world of fleeting trends and ephemeral fame, DESCENDENTS stand as a shining example of authenticity and longevity. Their music continues to resonate with fans old and new, proving that good songs never go out of style. So raise a toast to DESCENDENTS, the punk rock pioneers who show no signs of slowing down.
