Our Take

In a bizarre twist of fate, XXXTENTACION's latest album "Question Mark" has left us scratching our heads in...well, question marks. The self-proclaimed "sad boy" of rap takes listeners on a rollercoaster ride through a mishmash of genres, from the trap-infused "SAD!" to the acoustic ballad "Changes".

The album opens with the haunting sounds of "Introduction (Instructions)", setting the tone for what can only be described as a musical enigma. XXXTENTACION's trademark raw emotion is evident throughout, with tracks like "ALONE, PART 3" showcasing his ability to blend vulnerability with aggression.

But just when you think you've got a handle on things, the album takes a sharp left turn with the experimental "Floor 555" and the reggae-inspired "I don't even speak spanish lol". It's as if XXXTENTACION is daring us to keep up with his ever-evolving sound.

Overall, "Question Mark" is a chaotic yet strangely captivating journey into the mind of a troubled artist. Love him or hate him, XXXTENTACION refuses to play by the rules, and that's what makes this album so intriguing. So grab your question mark-shaped thinking cap and prepare to be baffled, bewildered, and maybe even a little bit impressed.

About the artist

XXXTentacion

In the ever-evolving landscape of hip-hop, a name that has continually pushed boundaries and defied categorisation is XXXTENTACION. Born Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, the Florida-based artist burst onto the scene with his raw, emotional lyrics and genre-bending sound. With a career that was as tumultuous as it was prolific, XXXTENTACION quickly became a polarising figure in the music industry. His early mixtapes showcased his ability to seamlessly blend elements of rap, rock, and emo, creating a sound that was uniquely his own. Tracks like "Look at Me!" and "Sad!" went viral, catapulting him to international fame. But it was XXXTENTACION's personal demons and legal troubles that often overshadowed his musical talent. The artist faced numerous legal issues, including charges of domestic abuse, which led to a cloud of controversy surrounding his public image. Despite this, XXXTENTACION's loyal fan base remained unwavering in their support, drawn to his unapologetic authenticity and raw vulnerability. Tragically, XXXTENTACION's life was cut short in 2018 when he was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting at the young age of 20. His untimely death left a void in the music world, but his impact continues to be felt through his music and the legacy he left behind. Love him or hate him, there's no denying that XXXTENTACION was a force to be reckoned with, leaving behind a body of work that will continue to inspire and provoke for years to come.
