Our Take
Our Take
Ah, Michel Petrucciani, the pint-sized jazz prodigy with the hands of a giant. This box set of his 5 original albums is a dizzying trip through Petrucciani's virtuosic piano playing and infectious charm.
"100 Hearts", Petrucciani's debut album, kicks things off with a bang. His lightning-fast fingers dance across the keys with a precision and flair that is simply jaw-dropping. Tracks like "Silly Petticoat" and "My Bebop Romp" showcase Petrucciani's playful side, while slower ballads like "Lullaby" tug at the heartstrings.
Next up is "Retro Movin'", a funky fusion of jazz and electronic sounds that proves Petrucciani was ahead of his time. The title track is a groovy jam that will have you tapping your toes and nodding your head in no time.
"Power Trio" sees Petrucciani teaming up with some of the best musicians in the business for a high-energy romp through classic jazz standards and original compositions. The chemistry between Petrucciani, Anthony Jackson on bass, and Steve Gadd on drums is electric, resulting in some truly unforgettable moments.
"Guinness Dream" finds Petrucciani pushing the boundaries of jazz even further, incorporating elements of world music and avant-garde experimentation. Tracks like "Tango Bear" and "Indian Dancer" are a wild ride through Petrucciani's musical imagination.
And finally, "Just So Happens" brings things full circle, with Petrucciani returning to his roots with a collection of intimate solo piano performances. His delicate touch and soulful playing shine brightly on tracks like "My Funny Valentine" and "Summertime".

About the artist
Michel Petrucciani
MICHEL PETRUCCIANI: The Virtuoso Pianist Who Defied Expectations With his diminutive stature and larger-than-life talent, Michel Petrucciani was a force to be reckoned with in the world of jazz. Born with osteogenesis imperfecta, a rare bone disorder that stunted his growth and confined him to a wheelchair, Petrucciani defied the odds to become one of the most accomplished pianists of his generation. Petrucciani's music was a blend of traditional jazz sensibilities and modern innovations, with a technical prowess that left audiences in awe. His intricate compositions and virtuosic performances earned him a reputation as one of the greatest pianists of all time, alongside the likes of Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum. But Petrucciani was more than just a master of the keys. He was a charismatic performer with a quick wit and a mischievous smile, endearing himself to fans and critics alike. His live shows were legendary for their energy and spontaneity, with Petrucciani often improvising on the spot and dazzling audiences with his lightning-fast fingers. Unfortunately, Petrucciani's life was cut tragically short when he passed away at the age of 36 due to a pulmonary infection. But his legacy lives on through his music, which continues to inspire and captivate listeners around the world. So if you're looking for a musical experience that's equal parts virtuoso and visionary, look no further than Michel Petrucciani. This jazz giant may have been small in stature, but his talent was larger than life.
