Our Take

The Exploited burst onto the punk rock scene in the early 1980s with a ferocity that left audiences both terrified and exhilarated. Their self-titled album, spanning from 1980 to 1983, is a relentless barrage of aggression and rebellion that refuses to be ignored.

From the moment the opening track "Punk's Not Dead" kicks in, it's clear that The Exploited mean business. With their gritty guitars, thunderous drums, and frontman Wattie Buchan's snarling vocals, the band delivers a sonic assault that is as thrilling as it is brutal.

Songs like "Dead Cities" and "Fuck the USA" are anthems for the disaffected youth, channeling their rage and disillusionment into a cacophony of noise that demands to be heard. The band's anti-establishment lyrics are delivered with a sneer and a swagger that makes it impossible not to nod along in agreement.

But it's not all doom and gloom. Tracks like "Army Life" and "Exploited Barmy Army" inject a dose of dark humor into the mix, showcasing the band's irreverent attitude and giving listeners a glimpse of the fun that can be found in chaos.

In a musical landscape crowded with pretenders, The Exploited stand tall as true punk legends. Their self-titled album is a raw and powerful statement of intent, a middle finger to the status quo that still packs a punch over 40 years later. Listen to it loud, listen to it proud, and let The Exploited remind you that sometimes, the only way to make a statement is to make some noise.
