Our Take
Our Take
After a five-year hiatus, Canadian pop-punk veterans SUM 41 are back with their latest offering, 13 Voices. And let me tell you, it's like a blast from the past mixed with a shot of adrenaline straight to the heart.
From the explosive opener "A Murder of Crows" to the anthemic closer "Twisted By Design," this album is a rollercoaster ride of emotions and energy. Frontman Deryck Whibley's raw vocals cut through the chaos like a knife, delivering lyrics that are both introspective and infectious.
The band's trademark blend of punk rock attitude and catchy melodies is still present, but there's a newfound maturity in their songwriting that adds depth and substance to their sound. Tracks like "War" and "Goddamn I'm Dead Again" showcase the band's ability to tackle heavy subjects with a sense of urgency and passion.
But don't worry, there are still plenty of moments that will have you fist-pumping and shouting along at the top of your lungs. "Fake My Own Death" and "God Save Us All (Death to POP)" are perfect examples of SUM 41 at their most raucous and rebellious.
Overall, 13 Voices is a triumphant return for SUM 41, proving that they still have plenty of gas left in the tank. So grab your leather jacket, turn up the volume, and get ready to rock out like it's 2001 all over again.

About the artist
Sum 41
SUM 41: The Canadian punk-pop pioneers who never grew up In a world of fleeting trends and ever-changing musical landscapes, SUM 41 have remained steadfast in their commitment to delivering high-octane anthems that strike the perfect balance between angsty aggression and catchy melodies. Since bursting onto the scene in the early 2000s, the band has managed to carve out a niche for themselves in the crowded world of pop-punk, thanks to their infectious energy and unapologetic punk attitude. Led by frontman Deryck Whibley, SUM 41's music is a potent blend of raw emotion and razor-sharp wit, with lyrics that often delve into themes of rebellion, alienation, and youthful exuberance. Tracks like "Fat Lip" and "In Too Deep" are instant classics that perfectly encapsulate the band's signature sound: a relentless barrage of power chords, thunderous drums, and shout-along choruses that make you want to jump around like a maniac. But don't be fooled by their playful antics and tongue-in-cheek humour - SUM 41 are a force to be reckoned with on stage, delivering electrifying performances that leave audiences breathless and begging for more. Whether they're tearing through blistering punk rock anthems or showcasing their more introspective side on acoustic ballads, the band's live shows are a testament to their enduring appeal and unrivalled energy. With a career spanning over two decades and a string of hit albums under their belt, SUM 41 show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. And thank god for that - because the world would be a much duller place without their infectious brand of punk rock rebellion. Long live SUM 41, the kings of pop-punk mayhem.
